After the Rosary

After the fifth decade, Catholics commonly pray the Hail, Holy Queen, its versicle and response, and the Rosary closing prayer, then make the Sign of the Cross. Other prayers follow family or parish custom.

A simple way to conclude

After the fifth decade, pray the Hail, Holy Queen, then the versicle and response:

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Continue with the closing prayer, beginning “Let us pray. O God, whose Only Begotten Son…” Finish with the Sign of the Cross. This is a customary Catholic conclusion, presented in the Compendium's common prayers. Your family or parish may follow another customary sequence.

The closing prayer asks for grace to imitate what the mysteries contain and obtain what they promise.

Other prayers you may add

These prayers are sometimes added after the Rosary. Each is optional.

  • The Litany of Loreto asks Mary to pray for us through a series of invocations.
  • The Prayer to Saint Michael asks for protection against evil through God's power.
  • The Memorare asks for Mary's intercession with confidence and humility.
  • Sub Tuum Praesidium is an ancient petition to the Holy Mother of God in our needs.
  • The Angelus recalls the Incarnation at morning, noon, or evening. During the Easter season, from Easter Sunday through Pentecost Sunday, the Regina Caeli traditionally replaces it.
