The Rosary in October
October is traditionally dedicated to the Rosary, with Our Lady of the Rosary observed on 7 October where the liturgical calendar permits. The usual weekly mystery schedule continues. Parishes sometimes hold additional Rosary gatherings during the month, and the Church has often encouraged this devotion as a prayer for peace.

October and the Rosary
October is traditionally dedicated to the Rosary in Catholic devotion. The memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary falls on 7 October. The month offers an opportunity to return to this prayer, learn it for the first time, or make room for it again in family life.
This dedication is a devotional custom. October is not a separate liturgical season, and Catholics are not required to pray a particular number of Rosaries during the month. The ordinary calendar continues, with its Sundays, solemnities, feasts, and memorials. A parish may hold a procession or an additional Rosary gathering according to local practice.
The Litany of Loreto is also prayed in Marian gatherings, often after the Rosary.
Which mysteries should I pray?
Use the usual weekly schedule during October: Joyful on Monday and Saturday, Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday, Glorious on Wednesday and Sunday, and Luminous on Thursday. The month does not replace the weekday assignments with one set. Today's Rosary names the mysteries for your local day.
Our Lady of the Rosary on 7 October
The 7 October memorial recalls Mary's help through the Rosary and the Church's thanksgiving associated with the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The memorial honors Mary under the title Our Lady of the Rosary. A parish celebration may include the Rosary alongside the Mass of the day.
A memorial may be displaced by a higher-ranking celebration, such as a Sunday. The customary date remains 7 October, but the parish's liturgical celebration follows the calendar's rules. Use the liturgical calendar for the year's dates and your parish notices for its actual gatherings.
Making room for a steady prayer
A regular time, such as after supper, can help a family gather for prayer. Decide beforehand whether to pray five decades or one, and choose someone to lead. Keep the prayer texts within reach of those who are still learning the words.
The Church has often encouraged the Rosary as a prayer for peace. Remember people living through war, including families separated by it. A parish gathering can name a place or community before beginning, while personal intentions remain unspoken if preferred.
