Saturday Rosary

Saturday is usually a day for the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary: the Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, Presentation, and Finding in the Temple. Saturday has a traditional Marian character in Catholic devotion. In the present weekly arrangement, its five decades contemplate the coming of Jesus and his childhood.

Saturday's Joyful Mysteries

In the weekly distribution proposed by Saint John Paul II, Saturday shares these mysteries with Monday. The Joyful Mysteries provide Scripture and meditations for each decade. Older prayerbooks commonly assign the Glorious Mysteries to Saturday.

The Saturday memorial of Mary

An optional memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary may be celebrated on Saturdays in Ordinary Time when the liturgical calendar permits. Other celebrations can take precedence. This memorial and the choice of Rosary mysteries are distinct customs.

The calendar companion shows the memorial within its stated calendar scope. For today's suggested mysteries, including feast-day changes, visit Today's Rosary. The Rosary guide gives the complete prayer sequence.
