The Presentation
The Presentation is the fourth Joyful Mystery of the Rosary. Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the Temple, where Simeon receives him and Anna speaks of him to those awaiting redemption. Simeon also foretells Mary's sorrow.

Scripture
Luke 2:21-24
When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”
Spiritual fruit: obedience
A gift brought to the Temple
Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to Jerusalem in accordance with the Law of the Lord. There they meet Simeon and Anna, who have waited faithfully for God's salvation. Simeon takes the child in his arms and praises God. Anna gives thanks and speaks about him to others awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.
The fourth Joyful Mystery is told in Luke 2:22–38. Alongside Simeon's joy comes a solemn prophecy: Jesus will be a sign that is opposed, and Mary will know sorrow. His words identify Christ as the light given to the nations and prepare Mary for the suffering to come. Simeon's prophecy is part of the encounter we contemplate in this decade.
The fruit of obedience
Mary and Joseph honor the Law with a faithful, ordinary action. Obedience here is a loving response to God, expressed through what has been entrusted to them. We can ask for the grace to fulfill our own responsibilities with care. That prayer might concern a duty we have been postponing, especially when another person relies on us to complete it.
Such faithfulness can seem unnoticed. Simeon and Anna have spent years waiting for the Lord. Their devotion is easy to pass over when the account is read quickly, yet Luke gives each of them a place in the recognition of Jesus. During this decade, pray for older people in your parish and family, especially those whose quiet devotion has sustained others. Give thanks for the wisdom they have shared and for the prayers whose fruits you may never see.
Receiving the light of Christ
The Feast of the Presentation is celebrated on February 2. Its blessing of candles recalls Christ as light. You can pray this mystery at any time of year, particularly when you need patience or clarity. The candle blessing belongs to the feast's liturgy. At home, a candle can also recall Simeon's words about the light of Christ, where it can be used safely.
