Thursday Rosary

Thursday is usually a day for the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary: the Baptism of Christ, Wedding at Cana, Proclamation of the Kingdom, Transfiguration, and Institution of the Eucharist. Contemplate the public life of Jesus and his gift of himself, following the arrangement proposed by Saint John Paul II.

Luminous Mysteries

Thursday's Luminous Mysteries

The Luminous Mysteries contemplate Christ's public ministry, from his Baptism in the Jordan to the Institution of the Eucharist. At Cana, Mary directs the servants to listen to Jesus. At the Transfiguration, the Father's voice gives the disciples that same command.

The Luminous Mysteries provide Scripture and reflections for all five decades. The final mystery is an occasion to give thanks for the Mass and pray for people preparing to receive Holy Communion.

Why older prayerbooks say Joyful

Saint John Paul II proposed the Luminous Mysteries in 2002. His suggested schedule moved the second weekly Joyful Rosary to Saturday and assigned the Luminous Mysteries to Thursday. Older books commonly place the Joyful Mysteries on Thursday and the Glorious on Saturday.

Both schedules remain in use. For the weekly pattern and feast-day suggestions, see Today's Rosary. Follow the Rosary guide for the prayer sequence.
